Based on industry-leading optoelectronic chip technology, this 50G PON OLT optical module supports downlink rates up to 50G and uplink rates up to 25G. Its optical power budget covers or is compatible with existing ODN networks, helping operators maximize the value of fiber and achieve continuous bandwidth upgrades while balancing network evolution and cost.
50G PON technology is a standard next-generation PON technology defined by the ITU-T. As a key technology for 10G optical networks, it represents the future trend of wired broadband access. Its technological advantages are significant. Its ultra-high bandwidth enables simultaneous high-speed internet access for numerous devices, significantly faster than traditional networks, with greater stability and more reliable signal transmission. However, 50G PON optical modules previously faced extremely high R&D and production requirements, resulting in high costs, low yield rates, and significant issues with signal attenuation and dispersion during transmission.
Leveraging its extensive laser chip R&D expertise, Gigac Technology has successfully developed a high-power 50G 1342nm EML integrated laser chip with integrated SOA, which is now used in the newly released 50G PON OLT optical module. This technological breakthrough effectively resolves signal attenuation and dispersion issues, improves the performance and stability of the optical module, reduces production complexity and costs, and brings 50G PON technology a significant step closer to large-scale commercialization.
Notably, Gigac Technology's 50G PON optical module has completed compatibility testing on Nokia's Lightspan MF 50G PON system. Test results show that this optical module excels in high-speed data transmission, signal stability, and compatibility, fully meeting the stringent requirements of Nokia systems and receiving high recognition from partners.
The Small Form-Factor Pluggable-Double Density (SFP-DD) is a high-speed, double-density pluggable module defined by the SFP-DD MSA and compatible with both SFP and SFP+ form factors. 50G PON OLT optical modules utilizing this form factor offer numerous advantages. They offer flexible modulation schemes, using either 25G NRZ or 56G PAM4 modulation, converting two 50G PAM4 electrical signals into a single 100G PAM4 optical signal for high-speed data transmission. Furthermore, compared to other form factors, the SFP-DD offers double the number of pins compared to SFP, supporting higher data rates and more functionality. It offers four optical interface types: LC, MPO-12, SM, and MDC, meeting connectivity requirements in diverse scenarios and providing operators and enterprises with more flexible network deployment options.
